Thakur Law Firm, APC Obtains Unanimous Jury Verdict for Client

Congrats to the TLF team for winning a jury trial verdict for the plaintiff in an international commercial dispute in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California! The case, Efficient Task Limited v. Pacific Bridge Global, Inc., 8:18-cv-01999-JWH-DFM, was tried by Associate Attorney Bill Schubert and Managing Attorney Pamela Tahim Thakur.

TLF represented Plaintiff Efficient Task Limited, a Taiwanese company that operates as a liaison between suppliers of commercial goods in Asia and wholesale buyers in other countries. The case involved a claim for breach of contract against Defendant Pacific Bridge Global Inc., a wholesale purchaser that distributes goods to U.S. retailers such as Wal-Mart. The Defendant raised two defenses to enforcement of the contract with Plaintiff: (1) that the contract was unenforceable because it was a sham transaction that violated usury limits on interest; and (2) that the statute of limitations barred Plaintiff’s claim for breach of contract.

The jury deliberated for roughly an hour before returning a unanimous verdict for Plaintiff. The jury found that Defendant breached the contract in March 2018 by failing to pay Plaintiff a sum of $140,000.00. Plaintiff expects the final judgment to include 10% interest on this amount running from the date of the breach.

Special thanks to Lisa Tam, Art Escamillas, Parshant Mahbubani, and Rasa Ashrati for crucial support. This was a team effort!
